Rarely do you come across a voice so unmistakable, so confident, so raw and alive that you can’t help but take notice. Are you ready to meet that voice? Her name is Gedina. A native of Santa Cruz, California who was raised near the ocean by a single father who encouraged her to sing; it is only natural that this Siren was taught to hold steadfast to integrity and inner strength. Gedina is an artist whose sound channels the Decca greats, embodies Rock n Roll legends and contains an essence that sounds fresh and fluid allowing her the ability and accessibility to top any Pop Chart. Presently, she is an emerging artist and resident Angeleno singing blues and soul that reaches into you, grabs you, and makes you drunk on her music. Her understanding of music and emotion emanates through her vocals and writing. You feel her raw silky voice, which has unmistakable remnants of Nina Simone and a likeness to Etta James...but upon listening further, you’ll hear Gedina’s own seeped musical foundation. This unique background inspires her to create and write her own music. Having a sound that is as sultry as Adele, with the grit and power of Florence Welch, is a style truly all her own. With recent releases of songs like Arrows and UhOh, it’s clear that anything she does will always have a sense of freedom, release, heart, sunshine, passion, and truth. If a sound could be a lightning bolt passing through the sun and a rainbow all at once...that would be Gedina’s music. Recently, Gedina was asked by a journalist during an interview (Dawn Garcia, A Taste of Dawn Magazine): "You have tremendous soul and strength when you sing. What would you say drives you to expose those parts of yourself on stage?" Her Answer: "Everyone has intense feelings of love, of happiness, of sadness, of loneliness and I take the step to put myself out there with all of it. My hope and dream is that everyone else hears all of it in my songs and finds permission to do that same. In the words of Nelson Mandela’s 1994 Inaugural speech "And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." That answer summarizes Gedina as an artist, performer, songwriter, and young woman. She has an uncanny ability to magnetically draw in both hearts and minds when she performs. It was that grit that drew in Director, Tim Carter from Gravity Media to her. The company formulated a concept for a massive music video to be created in upstate New York using Gedina’s song “Underwater.” The song sends a powerful message of survival and awareness about domestic violence. The music video along with her EP is slated for release in early Summer 2015.
